A stylish and simple way to give your hair more volume, our natural-looking hair toppers are a popular choice for those experiencing hair loss or thinning hair. But before you purchase any hair topper, make sure you’ve properly measured your hair loss.
Why is measuring for hair toppers important? Measuring before you buy a hair topper ensures you choose the correct base size for your area of hair loss. Measuring correctly will help prevent your hair topper from shifting, pulling and potentially creating more hair loss. This is important for all hair toppers, lace front hair toppers or without a lace front.
Follow this simple step-by-step tutorial to properly measure for a hair topper.
STEP 1: DETERMINE YOUR AREA OF HAIR LOSS
There’s no easier way to determine your area of hair loss than looking in a mirror! Examine your hair closely and identify the main area of loss/thinning/patchy hair that you’d like your hair topper to conceal.
STEP 2: MEASURE WIDTH & LENGTH
Use your measuring tape to measure the width and length of the area of hair loss. To avoid irritation and additional hair loss add ¾”-1” to each of the measurements. The extra space will allow your hair topper to clip into strong hair follicles, beyond the area of hair loss, which supports the weight of the hair topper.
For example, if your side to side (width) is 2” and your front to back (length) measurement is 4”, you will need a base size that measures at least 4.75” x 2.75”.
STEP 3: AREA OF HAIR LOSS + MEASUREMENTS = COVERAGE NEEDED
Now that you know your measurements and area of hair loss, you know the coverage needed! This means you’re ready to start shopping! Picking the perfect hair topper is a very personal choice. Decide what you’re looking for — what style, lace front or no lace front, and more. We offer ready-to-wear hair toppers with both lace fronts and no lace fronts for your convenience.
There are three ways we try to make it easy to find the perfect hair topper for your personal needs:
- Use the PRODUCT FINDER
- Use the Product Filters on the left-hand side of our HAIR TOPPERS collection page
- Call and speak with one of our HAIR TOPPERS EXPERTS at 1-800-300-6001
STEP 4: COMPARE YOUR MEASUREMENTS TO THE PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS
Once you believe you have found the perfect hair topper, compare the product specifications to your measurements. Keep in mind that your hair topper must clip into strong hair follicles. Remember: this is ¾”-1” beyond the area of hair loss.
Because your area of hair loss may change or shift, it’s important to keep your measurements documented and re-measure every 6 months.
We hope this step-by-step tutorial has helped guide you in measuring for your next hair topper. Good luck shopping!
